Tracks that launched a thousand drum loops – Mixed by Krust

Soul Funk

Last year, Bristol-born DJ and producer Krust returned with his first album in 14 years, The Edge of Everything. The 11-track release dipped into a vast pool of influences, with the drum’n’bass and jungle veteran pulling from the silver screen, spiritual experiences and stacks more in-between. The end result was an album built with immersion in mind; a mind-bogglingly deep record with cavernous bass and plenty of suspense. His recent remix project, The Edge of Everything – Remixed, features reworks from contemporary stars and rising names such as Batu, Four Tet, LCY and Hodge.

For our latest Specialist Mix, Krust stitches together a selection of classic tracks containing iconic drum breaks that laid the foundations for genres such as hip-hop, drum’n’bass, jungle and breakbeat. With tunes from Kool & The Gang, Les Baxter, ESG, The Winstons and more inside – plus just some of the most looped and sampled drum breaks in electronic music history – it’s an illuminating listen mixed by an essential artist. Get stuck in.
