As the first of this winter’s snow hit the ground this week, we’re channelling sunnier times with another instalment of Crack Magazine and Love International’s Transmission to Tisno mix series.
This time, Bristol techno and UK bass legend Hodge and Dublin’s Woozy founder EMA – who both played this year’s edition of the festival – go b2b for a heads-down set filled with heavy heaters and impeccable vibes. Tapping like-minded peers from all over the globe, their mix merges EMA’s affinity for wafty bass with Hodge’s flair for pairing techno rollers with more experimental sounds. Get stuck in.
Hodge
Who: Hodge.
Where: From south east, Medway. Live in Bristol.
What: Can’t stay still.
When in the night is this mix built for? Could be any point in the night, really. I think there’s room to deep things out at peak hours. It’s something I’m loving more and more – love the contrast in the night. For a perfect spot, I just played at a mad venue in Hanoi called Unmute – the whole club was a room built within a room with a great custom sound and tons of sub. The maddest thing is the room is built on springs so sort of bounced with the groove. This set would be a proper vibe in there.
Ema
Who: EMA.
Where: Dublin, Ireland.
What: Bassy, wafty wubs.
Why?: To quote Bill Callahan: “Not gonna say music saved my life but it gave me a life.”
