Selections: Superorganism

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Superorganism are an eight-piece outfit hellbent on injecting fun into the pop landscape. The multinational group, fronted by 17-year-old Orono, first made a splash with Something for Your M.I.N.D., a pop banger that landed, seemingly, out of nowhere. With no social media presence to speak of, theories were quickly hatched by the internet as to the group’s identity, with some speculating that they, perhaps, could be a project affiliated with Damon Albarn or Kevin Parker.

Not true. They’re actually an indie pop group comprised of longtime friends who live together in an East London house that doubles up as a studio. Now, having released singles Nobody Cares and It’s All Good, they’re gearing up to release their eponymous debut in March, themed around connections with the internet and nature.

With the band primed for a breakthrough in 2018, we jumped on the chance to have them curate an exclusive playlist for us. True to style, they came through with an extensive list that begins with Video Killed the Radio Star, and courses through tunes from Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Frank Ocean and OutKast. We’re in love.

Superorganism play Melt Festival, Germany, on 13-15 July.
