Selections: Volition Immanent

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Volition Immanent’s brand of robotic hardware punk has seen gain comparisons to chaotic luminaries like Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. Channelling the righteous indignation of skating-in-swimming-pools era LA punk and the incessant thrum produced by a web of machines, live, the pair are known for sweeping audiences along in their energetic whirlwind. With their self-titled debut LP, released in early 2018, duo Parrish Smith and Mark van de Maat have caught the attention of noise fans all over the continent.

Their playlist draws from the wells of rawness and grit as you’d expect, with JK Flesh, Deftones and Ho99o9 providing moments of pent-up agitation, while the likes of Travis Scott, Sister Machine Gun and Throbbing Gristle represent the groove-driven element to their sound.

Volition Immanent is a 2019 artist of the SHAPE platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union
