Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know

A reformed indie kid, Daniel Avery arrived at electronic music through electroclash, soaking up a specific moment in London club culture when distinctions between rave, rock and whatever else counted for precious little.

Under the mentorship of Erol Alkan, Avery applied an outsider’s eye to his DJ sets and productions to thrilling effect – his 2013 debut Drone Logic, released on Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label, was met with universal acclaim and packed crossover appeal. Still, unable to hold still for too long, Avery has since made a move toward tougher, uncompromising techno.

For his Selections, Avery delivers a set of heady atmospherics, heavy-limbed drones and post-club transcendence straight from the periphery. Headphone listening advised.

Daniel Avery plays a special 10-hour set at Phonox, London on 29 October. Find out more here.
