Listen to a journey through Tracks on Tap’s essential UK sounds
Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.
Curated by Tracks on Tap ahead of their upcoming Southbank Centre show, this playlist brings together some of their favourite bangers, spanning late-90s, 2000s and 2010s garage, grime, UK funky and more, before closing with a selection of contemporary UK rap. As they put it, it’s “a journey through some of the iconic UK anthems, as well as some of the new voices from the grassroots scene. We’re blending some of the songs that inspired our community, with the results of that inspiration.”
Founded in 2018 by South London rapper Lil Trubz, Tracks on Tap is a community-led platform championing emerging hip-hop, rap, R&B and grime talent through open mics, cyphers and live events. Their Southbank Centre takeover on 13 August, Tracks on Tap: A Journey Through UK Music, will feature resident DJ Tee Ali, performances from artists within the Tracks on Tap community, and a headline set that reimagines some of the UK’s most-loved tracks while celebrating the artists shaping what’s next. Entry is free and no tickets are required.
