As you are aware, the referendum is tomorrow.

In life, whenever we are met with the looming danger of an agenda of regressive sociopolitical isolationism, the number one concern has to be keeping our spirits up. When you’re faced with the prospect of Nigel Farage clinking glasses with Jim Davidson as Vera Lynne softly hums from the gramophone, you have to maintain a level of sanity and, most importantly, hope.

With that in mind, we have worked collectively to bring you a selection of odes to remaining. Here are 12 tributes to togetherness and anthems for unity to help us all keep the faith.

Do the right thing tomorrow, play these loud and believe in a better future – together.

The Streets - Don't Mug Yourself

No better way to open up this selection. As Skinner laments, “Hold it down boy, your head’s getting blurred.” With commentators worrying that we might be “flirting with economic insanity“, his words never rang more true.

The Beatles - We Can Work It Out

Check this out for trivia. This single was released on a double A-side with Day Tripper. You like day trips? You like freedom to travel? Let us work this out. Paul and John foreshadowed this dilemma back in 1965.

Alex Fergusson - Stay With Me Tonight

Delightfully minimal 1980s electropop flaunting that most timeless of messages. Brilliantly catchy and brimming with optimism – this could be the rediscovered single that changes your aunty’s mind.

Bruce Springsteen - The Ties That Bind

Bruce Springsteen – living proof that national pride doesn’t necessarily entail exclusion and prejudice. Bruce loves the USA but knows that unity can and must conquer all division. You can’t break the ties that bind.

Shakespeare's Sister - Stay

Ok now we’re going to start bringing out the big guns. “If you try to go alone, don’t think I’ll understand. Stay with me.” Lose yourself in the video and follow the light.

Mariah Carey - Without You

Cut to three minutes eight seconds. That gospel backing, that superhuman vibrato, that hope in the face of despair. God bless you Mariah, let life move forward together.

Mac DeMarco - Let My Baby Stay

Reigning King of good times and positive energy, Mac DeMarco sounds decidedly morose on this choice cut from Salad Days. We don’t want to end up like Mac, “Feeling lonely, separated from my one and only.” Let us stay, please baby, let us stay.

Underground Resistance - Nation 2 Nation

From nation to nation, from sea to sea… we are one. Thunderous jazz-techno from the early 90s complete with glorious saxophone action. Harmony never sounded so good.

Al Green - Let's Stay Together

Pure soul preaching from the temple of togetherness. When Green released this song way back in 1971, it stayed in the Billboard chart for 16 weeks. The message is clear and even more relevant now than it’s ever been.

The White Stripes - The Union Forever

A deep cut from White Stripes which was allegedly based on scenes from Citizen Kane. Fortunately, it captures the impending fog that a successful Brexit campaign might bring about. For better or worse, the union forever.

Sir Spyro ft. Big H, Bossman Birdie & President T - Side By Side

When people are spreading hate and fear, when the elite are pushing an agenda of division, when there’s a total lack of proper facts and you don’t know where to turn, remember one thing – they can’t take us when we’re side by side.

East 17 - Stay Another Day

There was no other way this could end. The snowfall, the two-tone wardrobe, the pleading. We hope these songs offer you some solace and hope in the face of the referendum. We can leave our parting shot – our final kiss – in the hands of Brian Harvey.

Baby if you’ve got to go away don’t think I could take the pain,
won’t you stay another day?
