Theaster Gates to take ‘Sanctum’ to Bristol

The renowned artist will take over Castle Park’s Temple Church.

Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates, who recently featured in the pages of Crack, was invited to the city of Bristol by Situations – a local art producer. Gates will create his first public project in the UK, Sanctum, as part of the city’s status as European Green Capital for 2015.

According to the official Sanctum website, “This autumn, a remarkable structure will rise up from within the bombed out remains of Temple Church in central Bristol. For 24 days, this 14th century site will be transformed into an intimate gathering place in which to hear the city like never before.”

The exhibition is set to include a variety of continuous performances taking place from 29 October for 24 concurrent days. It will be open to the public day and night. More information on the performances and goings-on is available in the video above and over at the official Sanctum website.
