The rapper has reportedly obtained the rights to access Gaye’s music for the film.
Dr Dre is currently working on a movie about Motown singer Marvin Gaye. According to Variety, the project is underway and in its very early stages.
Multiple attempts have been made in the past to create a biopic on Gaye. Film producers and directors such as Cameron Crowe, F. Gary Gray and James Gandolfini have all been denied permission by Gaye’s family in the past. However, Variety can confirm that Dr Dre has secured the rights to use Gaye’s music in the movie.
More recently, in 2016 Jamie Foxx was said to be producing an upcoming TV series surrounding Gaye’s life. The series was given the heads up from the Gaye Estate, although the project has seen no movement since.
