Childish Gambino praises London’s anti-Trump march during Lovebox set

Last Saturday, Childish Gambino – aka Donald Glover – headlined the main stage of London’s Lovebox festival at Gunnersbury Park.

During his set, he praised the ‘baby Trump’ balloon that had appeared during an anti-Trump protest that took place in the UK capital the day before. The ‘Together against Trump’ march was held to coincide with the President’s first official UK visit, and began from Regent’s Park before moving into central London.

“I lived in London for a whole year… you know we’re not that different. I’ve been seeing the same shit here that I be seeing in America,” Glover said. “I used to be like, ‘Oh man, London can’t be that bad, you don’t got guns like that.’ And then y’all came out with the acid, I was like, ‘Oh fuck. That shit is terrifying.’”

“But everybody feels the same way. I was very proud to see that big balloon. That shit is unfair,” he continued. “But the scary part is you gotta fight for that shit. I know it’s scary as people with a bunch of technology and data to fight for shit, because you know what happens to people who fight for shit. You have to stick together because we’re stronger together. I want you guys to know that.” In May, Glover released the politically charged video for This Is America, directed by Hiro Murai.

Last week, Glover released two new songs called Summertime Magic and Feels Like Summer. Earlier this year, Glover fans staged a takeover of the Trump subreddit r/thedonald, with images and memes celebrating the work of Childish Gambino.
