Lafawndah announces debut album Ancestor Boy with single Daddy

The LP is scheduled for release on 22 March, via Lafawndah’s own label Concordia.

Lafawndah has released the new single Daddy today (15 January). The track comes alongside the announcement of the avant-pop artist’s forthcoming album, Ancestor Boy.

Daddy’s bold lyrics and strong delivery, punctuated with breathy vocal intonations, are layered with experimental instrumentation. Charting themes of family ties, self determination and destiny, the song rallies to a rousing chorus, marking a new intensity to Lafawndah’s work.

The single sets the tone for debut album Ancestor Boy. A press release announcing the LP says that, where 2016 EP Tan spanned an ambitiously broad sonic universe, Ancestor Boy’s focus will be on exploring unchartered emotional territory.

Last December, Lafawndah performed collaboratively alongside Tirzah and Kelsey Lu at London’s Southbank Centre. Earlier in year, she worked with Japanese ambient composer Midori Takada and director Partel Oliva on a multidisciplinary project entitled Le Renard Bleu. She also self-directed a video for the single Joseph, a track co-written with Jamie Woon.
