DJ Lag reveals he collaborated on a track from Beyoncé’s upcoming Lion King inspired album The Gift.

South African producer DJ Lag has revealed that he has co-produced a track on the upcoming Lion King inspired album from Beyoncé. He tweeted last night (17 July) that he has a co-producer credit on track 12 from Lion King: The Gift which arrives tomorrow (19 July) via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. The song My Power also features Tierra Whack, Beyoncé, Busiswa, Yemi Alade and Moonchild Sanelly.

The unexpected collaboration announcement comes after a full tracklist was revealed earlier in the week (16 July), confirming a range of guests on the album from Kendrick Lamar to Childish Gambino. Jay-Z and Afrobeats stars WizKid and Burna Boy also feature on the record.

The Gift has been described by Beyoncé as “a love-letter to Africa”, and promises to highlight some of the best talent from the continent. “It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers.” said Beyoncé in a recent interview. “Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

DJ Lag has an EP out with Okzharp, called Steam Rooms, on 19 July via Hyperdub – the same day as the Lion King soundtrack.
