A.G. Cook has shared his first new single in three years.
Lifeline is the artist’s first single since 2016’s Superstar. Rather than focusing on personal projects, Cook has spent the last few years channelling energy into working with artists such as previous Crack Magazine cover star Charli XCX, co-producing her recent work with Christine and the Queens and Sky Ferreira.
That said, Cook revealed that the track has in fact been brewing in the background for a long time: “The melody at the core of Lifeline is this repetitive, insistent and slightly selfish earworm that I’ve been living with for too long now” Cook said in a press release accompanying the track. “In the end, the easiest way to deal with it was to leave it in a warm petri dish and let it do its own thing. A few years later I found myself with this young, unstable song, and somehow nurtured it to become a power ballad.”
Caroline Polachek‘s vocals can be heard on the song, with the pair having also worked together on the former Chairlift singer’s forthcoming album.
The single’s artwork has been provided by conceptual illustrator and graphic designer Timothy Luke.
