Missy Elliott performs a career-spanning medley at the 2019 VMAs

Days after releasing her first solo project since 2005, Iconology, Missy Elliott took to the stage at the MTV MVA awards in New Jersey to perform an exclusive medley of her biggest tracks.

The medley of chart-toppers began with the artist’s latest single Throw it Back, with the track’s bassline proceeding to bleed into her debut single The Rain. Elliott’sthen ran through a selection of her biggest tracks, namely Get ur Freak On, Work It, Pass the Dutch and Lose Control, switching costumes between and soaring around the stage.

One of the performance’s main talking points came about during Work It, when Missy gave a solo-slot to dancer and actress Alyson Stoner. Stoner can be seen in the song’s original, 2003 music video, aged only ten years old at the time.

The pioneering MC was also the recipient of the Video Vanguard award at the ceremony. Watch the performance in the player above.
