New club JAKI to open in Cologne

The club is situated in the city’s Stadtgarten complex.

A new club is set to open in Cologne’s centre for jazz and contemporary music. Named JAKI, the club pays homage to German drummer and Can band member Jaki Liebezeit who passed away in 2017. The club was previously known as Studio672 but has been redesigned and will go in a new direction for evening concerts and club nights.

To kick off proceedings, the club will open up with a mini-festival from 3-5 October. The first two nights will showcase the hybridisation of Western and Arab music with Deena Abdelwahed, Zuli, Nadah El Shaz and Matthias Main all set to appear at the venue. The other two nights will focus more on local talent with Cologne collective Mama Snake to perform on 4 October and JAKI’s new Tom-Tom Club set to host Wolf Müller and Phaser Boys on 5 October.
