The Cause was originally due to close on 1 January 2020.
Tottenham nightclub The Cause will remain open after being granted a licence extension from Haringey Council. In addition to the extension, the new licence will allow the club to stay open later throughout the week and until 6 am on weekends. The club was originally scheduled to close on 1 January next year.
The club has released a statement across social media, stating: “Styx, the cafe opposite, the petrol station on the corner by us have ALL been demolished. We’ve held our own during this and whilst we currently have no clue why, the plans to redevelop have been delayed!” The Cause is inviting people to an Extension Celebration Party, which would have been their staff Christmas party, on Friday to celebrate its continuation.
The independent club first opened in April last year with the aim of raising £25,000 for its charity partners Mind In Haringey, C.A.L.M. and Help Musicians UK. It was initially planned to run as a temporary clubbing space for a limited period, however, after doubling their initial fundraising goal, The Cause has continued to organise parties and raise money throughout 2019. Previous events have seen Batu, Avalon Emerson, Hodge and Joy Orbison take to the stage.
The news comes less than a week after The Cause found a new potential venue for 2020, which is being trialled for their two-venue New Year’s Eve party. Whilst the line-up for New Year’s Eve will remain undisclosed, Freerotation have recently announced their involvement. Read more on that story here.
