New book charts the history of DIY Berlin party Shameless/Limitless

The 536-page book has been compiled by Shameless/Limitless’ own Kevin Halpin and features posters, guest contributors, event texts and more.

Shameless/Limitless founder Kevin Halpin has curated a new book that reflects on twelve years of party antics in the German capital. The book is titled Please Come: Shameless/Limitless Selected Posters 2008-2020.

Halpin launched the event in 2008. It was the result of “relocating to Berlin and the ‘anything is possible’ feeling that accompanied that transition,” he explains.

Over the years S/L has welcomed a slew of names such as Erika de Casier, Magic Island, Bad Hammer and more. That’s alongside events featuring friends, family and regulars, plus shows or afterparties with the likes of Mac DeMarco, Project Pablo and Metronomy. All together, S/L has hosted over 550 events.

The new book features design work from award-winning studio fertig design alongside posters, event texts and guest text contributions from musicians like Alex Cameron and Molly Nilsson as well as designers like Aisha Franz and Tabitha Swanson.

Speaking to Crack Magazine, Halpin says, “I had wanted to put together a book which would serve as some kind of S/L overview – be that one of event write-ups, show posters or memories from people who contributed – for a few years. That the project ultimately ended up being a combination of all three is a testament to finding a silver lining in the unexpected free time that 2020 has served up.”

The groundwork for the book was in many ways set by a surprise which friends (some of whom worked on Please Come) presented to me for S/L’s 10th anniversary back in Dec 2018. It was a book, of which there are only 10, made up of their favourite posters and write-ups. We more or less picked up where that project ended, refining and updating the content, layout and design, and adding guest texts, too.”
