Japanese Breakfast, aka Michelle Zauner, has released a new single entitled Posing in Bondage. The track is the second to be lifted from Zauner’s forthcoming Japanese Breakfast album Jubilee, which is scheduled for release in June. Last month, Zauner announced the album and surprise dropped its lead single Be Sweet.

Posing in Bondage was released yesterday (8 April) alongside a new self-directed music video. Watch it below.

In a press statement, Zauner describes Posing in Bondage as, “a ballad about loneliness and longing, a song about two people who want so badly to connect but are never quite able to do so. No place felt lonelier than an empty grocery at 1 AM.” She adds, “The video is actually an epilogue to the one that will accompany our next single, here presented out of order.”

As we outlined earlier this year, Jubilee isn’t the only project that Zauner’s sharing with the world in the coming months: she’s also releasing her memoir, Crying in H Mart. The upcoming book shares its name with the hit New Yorker essay Zauner wrote in 2018 and sees her expanding on the essay’s themes. It’s due for release in the UK in hardback on 5 August.
