The duo will release their new LP, Son, in November.

Duval Timothy and Rosie Lowe have teamed up for a new collaborative album. The forthcoming record, titled Son, was recorded in London and Freetown, Sierra Leone, between 2019 and 2021. It’s said to be inspired by a shared love for choral music, with the likes of Daniel Koroma, Kandeh Bangura, Valentine Coker, Chino Greene and Tom Herbert tapped as contributors.

“We were interested in bringing our surroundings into the recordings; leaving doors open, recording in different spaces and locations, inviting the listener to experience the life that was going on around us whilst capturing the process,” the pair explained in a statement.

The nine-track album was announced this week, with the duo also sharing its title track, Son. Listen to the single below.

In 2020, we crowned Timothy’s solo LP Help our Album of the Year. In our write-up, we said: “Nothing on Help is decorative. Each sudden piano stab or guitar lick adds emotional weight. The beauty in his minimalist, emotive-driven approach, is that it asks you to fill in the blanks, and to dig deeper beneath the surface to feel something.”

Son will be released on 12 November via Carrying Colour. Pre-order the album on Bandcamp and listen back to Timothy’s Sunday Mix below.
