The Swedish festival also unveiled the likes of Gavsborg, Rian Treanor and Bendik Giske in its first artist announcement.

Intonal Festival has revealed the first wave of acts set to play out at its forthcoming edition. Returning to Malmö – in the far south of Sweden – from 26-30 April, the event will welcome artists such as Jay Glass Dubs, Cassius Lambert, Alexis Langevin-Tétrault and Guillaume Côté for world premiere performances. The likes of Coby Sey, k means, Laila Sakini and Equiknoxx’s Gavsborg – who just launched a new tape label entitled Cassette Blair – were confirmed in today’s announcement alongside ambient pioneer Laraaji, Norwegian saxophonist and composer Bendik Giske and the nine-piece Ensemble Nist-Nah percussion group. Ensemble Nist-Nah’s Will Guthrie will also perform solo, while Rian Treanor is set to team up with Leila Ziu.

In our review of Intonal’s 2022 chapter, we described the festival as one that “delights in bringing into conversation the international art-speak of the avant-garde and the genres born so clearly out of time and place.” In a statement, Intonal organisers spoke of their approach this year’s event, calling it “more open-ended than its previous instalments – the starting point of something new.”

Intonal Festival returns on 26-30 April. Head to the festival’s site to view the programme so far and purchase tickets. You can also listen back to subdued and pondering mix for the weekend from Bendik Giske.
