MUBI GO members can watch The Whale in UK cinemas as part of their membership.

Director Darren Aronofsky’s latest film The Whale lands in UK cinemas today (3 February). Starring the likes of Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink and Hong Chau, The Whale was written by Samuel D. Hunter, and is based on Hunter’s play of the same name. Brendan Fraser serves as the main protagonist, playing a reclusive English teacher who attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

The Whale had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival in 2022. This week, in line with its UK theatrical release date, the A24 film has been hand-selected by MUBI GO as its film of the week. This means that MUBI GO members can watch The Whale in cinemas as part of their subscription, which offers members one film ticket per week at participating cinemas in addition to access to all films currently streaming on MUBI.

Earlier this month, Brendan Fraser won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor thanks to his role in The Whale. He has also been nominated for Best Actor at the upcoming Academy Awards, taking place on 12 March. His co-star Hong Chau has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. Darren Aronofsky’s debut feature, Pi, was released in 1998. A plethora of notable films have been released in the decades following, including Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler, alongside Black Swan and mother! and more.
