re:ni and Laksa launch new label RE:LAX

The first release on the imprint is Laksa’s new EP Body Score.

Following on from their collaborative NTS radio show and parties under the same name, re:ni and Laksa have launched new label RE:LAX. The pair of DJs and producers will put out Laksa’s Body Score as the first release, which is due out 21 April digitally and on vinyl. That same date will also see them celebrate RE:LAX’s third birthday with a party at Ormside Studios.

Speaking on the launch of their label, Laksa and re:ni said, “We’ll be exploring music at faster tempos – trying to continue the lineage of jungle, dubstep, grime and UK techno. The balance of Flow and Energy in a track is something we’re interested in; Flow is sound design / fresh sonics, and Energy is the feeling and emotion of a track. Having this balance gives a tune the potential to be memorable and impactful. Music that makes you feel something and gives us a visceral connection on the dancefloor is important to us.”

The pair also added that their mission for the label is “create some narrative, and do something that feels personal, engaging and energizing to a listener, no matter where they’re listening from.”

Three-track EP Body Score sees Laksa draw on his experience as both a social work as well as a producer and DJ, in particular exploring “the idea how music, and especially dancing/raving, can be therapeutic and/or cathartic” with the track titles – Soulz, Bodies and Mind – referencing the interconnection between “emotion and feeling in music”. The track Bodies also includes a sample of psychiatrist and author of The Body Keeps the Score Bessel van der Kolk.
