Something new from the former Crack Magazine cover star.
Ethel Cain has uploaded a new demo to her SoundCloud. The artist dropped the new homecoming (demo) online while out on the road with her debut album, Preacher’s Daughter. Cain has previously previewed the song – rumoured to be a yet-to-be-released B-side from that record – during shows. Check it out below.
In May 2022, Ethel Cain – aka the creative alias of Hayden Silas Anhedönia – released Preacher’s Daughter. In our review of the record, which we named our 2022 Album of the Year, we described it as, “a debut album that feels more like a mid-career magnum opus”. In our Issue 138 cover story, Cain outlined plans to release “an EP that serves as a prequel to Preacher’s Daughter, catching up with Cain in high school and detailing her first love – the same guy she sings about on A House in Nebraska” with “other things planned for the next year or two”.
Cain has shared a slew of demos since Preacher’s Daughter landed, including last month’s two children in a motel (demo) – “old demo from 2020, the ORIGINAL inbred” – and last year’s south alabama (god’s country demo). In November, she surprise released a new track inspired by Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal coming-of-age film, Bones and All.
