Baby in EastEnders named after Charli XCX

The popstar – and former Crack Magazine cover star – is referenced in an episode of the soap opera which airs on TV tonight but is already available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Following on from her face featuring in Aphex Twin’s live visuals recently, Charli XCX has made it into EastEnders. In a storyline that follows 13-year-old Lily Slater and her newborn baby, when asked by Lily’s mum, Stacey Slater, what they’ve called the baby the child’s dad Ricky says she’s called “Charli” adding “after Charli XCX” to correct Stacey who assumed the name was after her late uncle Charlie.

In a following scene, the name continues to cause comedic confusion with family members. “Charlie after my dad?”, Kat Slater asks in the clip to the response: “No, Charli without the ‘e’ as in Charli XYZ”. Watch the clips, which have been shared via X – fka Twitter – below.
