Danny L Harle has collaborated with Olly Alexander on the UK’s Eurovision entry for 2024

The Years and Years singer will be representing the UK in the contest, held in Sweden next year.

Yesterday, Olly Alexander announced that he will be the UK’s Eurovision entry for 2024. The pop star and It’s a Sin actor will be performing a track co-written and produced by Danny L Harle. Sharing the news, the Harlecore artist wrote: “It’s a big one”. In a 2017 interview for Nylon with Carly Rae Jepsen, Harle said that he would like to “win the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK”.

“This was very difficult to keep quiet,” Alexander said on social media when sharing the news. “I’ve wanted to do this for a long long time and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name”, he added. The 68th edition of Eurovision is set to be held in May 2024 in Mälmo, Sweden.

The Eurovision Song Contest has been facing backlash and calls for boycott after allowing Israel to participate in next year’s event. Additionally, the Icelandic Society of Authors and Composers (FTT) has called for the country not to participate unless Israel is banned from the competition. In a statement addressed to the director and board of RÚV – Iceland’s TV broadcasting service – they asked for RÚV “not to participate in Eurovision in 2024 unless Israel is denied participation in the competition on the same grounds as Russia in the last competition.” The association of musicians also wrote, “we all have a duty to take a stand against war and the killing of civilians and innocent children”. RÚV has yet to respond.
