MUTEK celebrates its 25th anniversary with immersive digital art trail

The Village Numérique will take place in Montreal from 15-29 August.

To mark its 25th anniversary, MUTEK will present the Village Numérique, a free multidisciplinary art installation circuit being held in line with this year’s edition of MUTEK Montreal (20-25 August).

Village Numérique has been designed as a universally accessible and inclusive urban trail, featuring around 20 installations spread across four key locations: St-Laurent Boulevard, Parterre du Quartier des Spectacles, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and Place des Arts. In accordance with Executive Producer Mikaël Frascadore’s emphasis on the event being “an ode to Québec’s digital creativity”, the team behind the Village Numérique has started their line-up reveal by announcing four Québec artists and studios on the programme.

Sabrina Ratté’s audiovisual installation Inflorescences will debut at the Parterre du Quartier des Spectacles, a space that will also present Age of Union’s immpersive Black Hole Experience (BHX), designed by Kelly Nunes and Dax Dasilva. UQAM’s Agora du Cœur des sciences will host also Iregular’s hyperrealist installation Voices In Your Head, an interactive exhibit encouraging natural interactions between visitors, while Mirari studio will showcase another interactive experience, DUO, inviting visitors to experience an impossible encounter.

“The artists and studios we have carefully selected reflect the exceptional quality of the original and innovative circuit we are presenting,” Frascadore adds. “This vision is also shared with key partners in the local artistic digital ecosystem, such as Xn Québec and UBISOFT.”

The Village Numérique will be open to the public free of charge between 6pm and 11pm.

The full programme of artists will be revealed incrementally until 6 August. For more details, and to follow along with the programme updates, head to the event’s website.
