The long-running Latvian weekender will host a series of experimental live performances, alongside masterclasses and lectures between 4-5 October, with a free opening event on 28 September.
Long-running Latvian experimental festival Skaņu Mežs has revealed the full programme for its 2024 edition.
Taking place between 4-5 October in Riga, the festival’s 22nd iteration will be headlined by British avant-garde electronic duo Autechre and New York City hailing hip-hop abstractists Armand Hammer (billy woods & Elucid). Also on the bill are the likes of heavy music pioneers The Body & Dis Fig, Australian vocalist-composer Charmaine Lee, and 2024/2025 SHAPE+ Platform artist 2K88.
Focusing on free improvisation, noise, ambient and other oddball, experimental sounds, there will also be a series of artist talks, masterclasses and lectures. For it, London-based stage photographer David Laskowski will dive into the realities of stage photography, while Fred Frith multi-instrumentalist Fred Frith will host a masterclass session on improvisation.
The festival will also host a free-to-enter opening event at Laska Bar this Saturday, 28 September, with John Chantler, Aaron Edgcomb and Kirsten Carey performing.
Skaņu Mežs is also a co-founder of the SHAPE+ Platform, a cross-European platform focusing on emerging talent, alongside the likes of CTM, Unsound and Terraforma festivals.
