The ‘Nightcall’ producer was found dead at his Paris home yesterday, aged 50.
French electronic artist Kavinsky, born Vincent Belorgey, has died at the age of 50.
French newspaper Le Figaro reported that he was found at his Paris home at around 10:30pm on 28 July. The publication, citing a police source, said the musician had been suffering from headaches for several days before his death.
An investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. In a statement, the Paris prosecutor’s office said: “An investigation into the causes of death has been opened in order to determine the origin of the death, as no suspicious elements were discovered at the scene by the first responders.”
Kavinsky found international acclaim with his 2010 breakthrough Nightcall. The track became a cult favourite after soundtracking the opening sequence of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 film Drive, whose soundtrack was later included in Crack Magazine’s list of the greatest film scores of the 21st century. Produced alongside Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and featuring vocals from CSS frontwoman Lovefoxxx, the song remains one of the defining electronic releases of the early 2010s.
His retro-futurist sound helped usher in a new wave of neon-hued synthpop through albums like OutRun and 2022’s Reborn.
