The likes of David Rodigan, DJ Storm and Doc Scott have paid tribute to the late dubplate cutting engineer.
Leon Chue, dubplate cutting specialist at London’s Music House, has died. His passing was confirmed this week.
Chue began working at Music House, the pressing and mastering studio helmed by his father, back in 1995. At the time, Music House was based in Holloway Road, though these days you can find it in Tottenham Hale.
The studio would play an instrumental role in UK dubplate culture, with both Chue and the studio respected by artists and label from the jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, garage and reggae scenes.
Chue is the son of roots reggae artist Paul Chue. His brother is the UK garage trailblazer Wookie.
Labels like Butterz and Local Action, plus artists like David Rodigan, Doc Scott, DJ Storm and DJ Flight, have paid tribute to Chue across social media. In his Twitter post, Rodigan called Chue the “master dub plate cutting engineer”.

This is very sad, Leon always used to go out his way to help me, sometimes driving 40 plus minutes (in his sick beamer) to meet me with dubs for raves the same night or next day. Lovely guy, RIP Leon 😞 https://t.co/yvRh8HoOG9

Leon mastered a bunch of our early releases — fond memories of driving to Music House and leaving with a car full of records and a ton of stories. R.I.P. https://t.co/R7H0RVQ0PQ
