Tour de Moon is a new nightlife, youth counterculture and arts festival.

The festival is one of 10 major creative projects commissioned as part of UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, which is taking place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 2022. The brand new event is set to stop at three UK cities this year, with its Newcastle edition just gone (27-30 May). Its next stop is Southampton this weekend (10-13 June). Head here for tickets, so you don’t miss out on the sprawling, cosmic experience.

For its inaugural chapter, the festival curated a broad, wide-ranging programme that featured Tour de Moon’s very own TV show, a parade of psychedelic inflatables, live music, afterparties, thought-provoking talks and lots more. The brainchild of creative director, artist and filmmaker Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun – the founder of NASA’s International Space Orchestra as well as the University of the Underground – the project has been described as “a direct response to the current world we live in”. Inspired by the moon, the festival took over various venues of Newcastle with its vibrant, galactic aesthetics and celestial theme. We’ve compiled our very own visual diary of the event. Scroll down for photos of the Newcastle leg below.
