Einhundert’s three-day exploration of the club experience offered an insight into the creative process of some of electronic music’s top producers.
Berlin collective Einhundert built their latest event around three thematic pillars – sound, silence, and movement, with each day of CODE.SWITCH focused on one of these three core aspects of the club experience.
Day one opened with a lecture from Uruguayan artist and DJ Lechuga Zafiro, exploring the relationship between field recording, composition, and the politics of listening. The event moved into the night with performances by Berlin-based DJ Nunguja, Angolan artist Nazar, and a DJ set from Zafiro, all exploring various concepts through sound.
Day two began with a production workshop led by Toumba, exploring rhythm, groove, and the ways cultural heritage shapes contemporary sound. The main music programme followed with sets from Toumba alongside Mobilegirl, Dis Fig and Suutoo, as well as a hybrid performance from Dengue Dengue Dengue. The night closed with a high-energy set from Scratchclart and Dark Man Zulu exploring deep percussive layers.
The final day opened with a guided listening session with Copenhagen and Berlin-based producer and DJ Why Be, presenting works from Berlin experimental label Yegorka, followed by sets from Nas Tea and Yantan Ministry. The day moved into performances by the duo Primitive Art and a closing performance from former Crack Magazine cover star cktrl, who delivered a live rendition of their debut album Spirit.
