Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Paris-based Egyptian artist, writer, singer, composer, and actor Abdullah Miniawy has become a singular figure in the global experimental scene. His career spans across many landscapes – from starring in award-winning films and directing short films to composing for ensembles, theatre stages, and galleries.

Embodying the term ‘multifaceted’, Abduallah Minawy’s music is haunting and deeply political, encompassing avant-garde electronics, jazz, ambient textures, and an uncanny voice that pierces through the fractured soundscapes.

At the core of Minawy’s practice is a sense of hope; his work speaks to exile, repression, and resistance, yet also to the possibility of light in dark spaces. For his Selections playlist, Minaway takes us to a space to listen and reflect. “In an oval room, when sound gets into the veins, heat rises, and you feel a presence. Praise it.”

Abdullah Miniawy will play this year’s edition of En Masse, which takes place from 9-12 October across various venues in Bristol
