Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Alewya exudes confidence. A multidisciplinary artist by nature, as a singer, songwriter and producer Alewya breathes quiet conviction into all that she creates – with her gorgeous debut EP Panther in Mode, released in 2021, serving as a six-track declaration of intent from an artist who can cite the likes of Little Simz and Moses Boyd as early supporters and collaborators.

Based in London with Egyptian and Ethiopian heritage, Alewya’s looks to her work as a means to celebrate and come closer to the cultures that shaped her through boundaryless explorations through music and art. It’s an approach that’s earned her not only the support of fellow artists, but eager listeners, too. It’s this audience she’ll be connecting with this spring as she embarks on a UK and European tour. Headlining Kings Cross venue Scala tomorrow (22 February) – with a smattering more shows to follow across Germany, France and the Netherlands in the coming weeks – fans are due to be treated to Alewya’s effortless mix of gorgeous vocals with endlessly danceable electronics.

Her Selections playlist leans into this same energy; a two-hour excursion, built for excusions, untethered to place, genre or speed. Classics from J Dilla and Madlib live alongside Radiohead deep cuts and Brazilian rhythms courtesy of Daniel Maunick.

I love music [and] this is a short version of my travel playlist,” she tells Crack Magazine. “Sounds that inspire and stimulate my imagination while on the move. Bless and hope you enjoy it.” Tune in below.
