Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

For our first instalment of the new year, Liverpool’s suave crooner Brad Stank comes through with an eclectic and free-flowing playlist, providing some much needed uplifting melodicism and soulful grooves.

Since the release of his debut EP Eternal Slowdown in 2018, Brad Stank has been providing us with dusky, odball slow jams imbued with a swooning romanticism. A mood that he harnesses through a soulful and laid-back blend of indie, R&B, psychedelia and jazz to hypnotic effect. He’s also just shared Cry Baby, a link-up with Lord Apex taken from his forthcoming new album In The Midst of You – which is due out later this month.

“I’ve tried to put a few different styles in there but make sure it flows nicely,” Brad Stank begins. “Starting off with a couple of my favourite rap songs from last year, then into some new soul and indie stuff and finishing with some oldies and gospel vibes.”

Detailing his selections further he adds,Couple of Bandcamp-exclusive ones in there too with Knxwledge and Jonathan Richman – very opposing sounds but keeping the DIY torch well and truly lit. Hope you enjoy and remember: I love you because you’re me.”

In The Midst of You is due out 26 January via Sunday Best Recordings
