Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

DJ Plead makes – and plays – functional percussive belters for up-for-it dancefloors. His effortless moulding of forward-facing club sounds with more traditional motifs and Middle Eastern rhythms has garnered him a flurry of fans, both in Australia, where he was raised, and abroad. It’s also led to a slew of releases on much-loved dance music imprints such as Livity Sound, Nervous Horizon and AD 93 – with his offering there, 032, a winning collaboration with Nervous Horizon’s TSVI under the latter’s Anunaku alias.

This Selections playlist, however, sees Plead steering away from the rattling percs of one of his sets. Shared in the run-up to a forthcoming Berlin show – at the Creamcake-organised 3hd Festival this weekend – Plead shines a light on swelling soundscapes and emotive compositions. Think lush background music from Cate Brooks, Marco Shuttle, nthng and more.

The tracks I’ve chosen could be mostly categorised as ‘ambient’. I’m experiencing a bit of drum fatigue, so this seems appropriate,” he elaborates. There are some real tear-jerkers in there – be warned!”

DJ Plead plays 3hd 2022: The Day of the Answer!, Berlin, on October 29
