Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Spin City are an emerging artist collective based in the North East of England. Formed with an aim to spotlight and create space for DJs and performers from underrepresented groups, the DIY collective describe their work as “by, led and for” People of the Global Majority as well as queer artists.

This weekend, the crew will make their official debut at Tour de Moon festival in Newcastle. The new nightlife and arts series, which takes place across three UK cities this May and June, has dedicated part of its programme to showcasing rising live acts and DJs. Spin City were tapped for curatorial duties and will take over the downstairs room at local venue World HQ on Saturday (28 May) as part of the festival’s Moon Music afterparty. Collective members Samara, Ffog, Azula Bandit and DJ Awkward Black Girl will be in attendance, treating late-night revellers to a grab-bag of soulful sounds and deep basslines.

Here, the crew show us what they are all about through an exclusive playlist made up of tracks by the likes of Wu-Lu, Bbymutha, Kaytranada and more. Freewheeling between regions and sounds, it’s an apt embodiment of the collective’s dynamic musical spirit. That’s enough from us though, tune in below.

Spin City play Tour de Moon, Newcastle, on 28 May. Tour De Moon is one of 10 major creative projects commissioned as part of UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, which is taking place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 2022
