With co-signings from some of Europe’s most influential venues, platforms and labels, including Düsseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs and London’s NTS Radio, Cologne-based artist Phillip Jondo has garnered a well-earned reputation for driving sets and percussion-heavy tracks. His debut EP, 2021’s Little Princess for Dekmantel, featured knockout collaborations Maxwell Sterling, DJ Plead and Moa Pillar.
Jondo’s Crack Mix treads a similarly weighty path. Commencing with a jittering cut from Iglooghost that wouldn’t sound out of place in a dance music lover’s sleep playlist, the recording deftly moves through an unpredictable barrage of “bass-inspired tracks ranging from drill and footwork influences to dembow, dub, r‘n’b and electro funk” from the likes of Jimmy Edgar, Proc Fiskal and PsychoYP. Listen out for an unreleased collab from Jondo, Xzavier Stone and DJ Plead, too.
