The Golden Filter
Love, loneliness and longing are amongst the most common themes in pop music, but few can evoke them like London-based duo The Golden Filter.
Since releasing their full-length debut Voluspa back in 2010, the combination of Penelope Trappes’ wistful vocals and Stephen Hindman’s marriage of nu-disco chug and crystalline synth lines has won them a broad following, with many DJs peppering their mixes with Golden Filter tracks for a touch of lovesick melancholy.
It’s fitting then, that their forthcoming album Still // Alone is being released by Optimo Music. As the title suggests the long-player is split in two, with the first half given over coldwave indebted club music and the latter dedicated to emotive, downbeat pop.
To coincide with Valentine’s Day, The Golden Filter have put together a mix entitled Love // Affair, which cherry picks tracks with an “element of love or longing… put together to tell a story – a push and pull like a long distance affair.”
With contributions from Patrick Cowley, Muslimgauze and Chris & Cosey, it’s a trip through The Golden Filter’s sonic influences and a tribute to the agony and ecstasy of being in love.
Still // Alone is out via Optimo Music on February 24
