December Playlist

It was pretty nice to get some wholesome soul points in over the festive period. But every time we pulled a cracker, we couldn’t help feel that we’d rather be searching Sacred Bones’ Soundcloud for a grim deathpunk banger; and throughout those sentimental reunions with old school friends, we secretly longed to be back in front of the laptop, endlessly downloading expletive-ridden mixtapes from Datpiff.com. It’s good to be back.

Opening with the excellent Shabazz Palaces loosie Ham Sandwich, the vibe of this month’s playlist ranges from a new track by the much-hyped nu-grime supergroup Future Brown, to visceral distortion provided Bristol noise-rockers Spectres and a saucy new tune from white-trousered crooner Miguel. The whole thing wraps up with a surprisingly poignant collaboration between filthy-minded ghetto house veteran DJ Slugo and, inexplicably, Nicolas Jaar. Enjoy.
