Selections: Japanese Breakfast

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Having released her debut Psychopomp last year, Michelle Zauner followed up with a sophomore release that charts off into extraterrestial territory, entitled Soft Sounds from Another Planet. This year, she took to Colston Hall’s foyer, sporting rave-esque LED light-up trainers, for a charged performance at Bristol’s Simple Things Festival.

Zauner’s selections is what you’d expect with soft indie pop cuts relaying the slightly melancholic, heart-swelling and bittersweet moods that tinge her own albums. There’s tracks from Canadian synth-pop quartet Alvvays, lo-fi bedroom artist (Sandy) Alex G, The Japanese House, Palehound, Snail Mail, the hypnotic house textures of rising Korean artist Yaeji and more.
