Selections: Jennifer Cardini
Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.
Jennifer Cardini needs little introduction. A pioneering artist whose career took shape in the Paris clubs during the 90s, refining her sound and selections through her residencies at storied queer spaces like Rex Club and Le Pulp.
A central figure within the Parisian scene, her reputation soon spread beyond the city, and she’s spent the last two decades playing some of the world’s most respected clubs, from Panorama Bar and De School to Good Room and Fabric. Fusing together disco with house, techno and electro, Cardini’s sets are specifically focused on the ‘floor and demonstrate her ear for melodies, but her philosophy goes deeper than the tracks. She’s previously stated that nightclubs provided her with a home to dance and feel good about her sexuality as a gay teen, and she has continued to rep the LGBTQ+ community. Aside from DJing, she runs two separate labels – Correspondant and Dischi Autunno – both with different musical leanings.
For her entry into our Selections series, the globe-trotting selector and tastemaker pieces together a playlist of her favourite tracks, spanning psychedelic disco, cold wave and “deviant house”. A Selections list that’s pure feel-good vibes, featuring cuts from Correspondant. Hit play below.
Jennifer Cardini plays at SXM Festival, St Martin, 13-17 March
