Arca shares new Albert Moya-directed video for Ritual

Arca

The track featured on the Kick compilation which she released last December.

Today (24 April) Arca has shared a new video for Ritual. Directed by Albert Moya – who also created the music video for Cayó – the visualiser accompanies the bonus track from Kick, the fan-voted compilation that followed on from her five album KICK series. The release saw fans vote on the mutants1000000 Discord channel, selecting their favourite songs from the records to be included on the compilation.

Of the Ritual visualiser, Arca says: “this video is for the freaks, for the outcasts, for the dispossessed, for the weirdos, for the migrants, for the shunned, the mocked, the ridiculed, the misunderstood, the othered.” Alongside the new music video, Arca has also shared a new merch drop on her Mutants platform.

The Ritual video follows on from Arca’s appearance earlier this year on the runway at Paris fashion week. The Venezuelan artist, DJ, performer and composer walked for Mugler’s Fall/Winter 2022/23 campaign. On the fashion tip, Arca also composed music for Proenza Schouler’s Fall/Winter 2023 show which was accompanied by words from Chloë Sevigny.

In addition to the release of her Kick compilation, last year Arca contributed to Shygirl’s debut Nymph – lending her production on Come For Me – and also played a DJ set at Beyoncé’s Renaissance party in Paris.

In our review of Arca’s five-part KICK series, we wrote: “The 59-track project’s proposal is a bold one: set everything on fire (as she calls for on Incendio) and watch the ashes of empire give rise to a bright queer future, where genre doesn’t exist and neither do binaries or borders. Side-by-side with the first record, KICK ii, KicK iii, kick iiii and kiCK iiiii stitch together a fearless image of a new world order – and Arca is leading the charge.”
