SZA samples Björk on new album S.O.S.

The track Forgiveless contains a sample from the Icelandic artist’s song Hidden Place.

Today (9 December) SZA has released her new album, S.O.S. The 23-track release features a handful of guest appearances from the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Don Toliver and Travis Scott. The Wu-Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard also features on the record, with a sample from the late rapper’s Goin’ Down included on Forgiveless. SZA has also sampled Björk on Forgiveless – which is the last track on the album – with a segment from the Fossora artist’s Hidden Place, which is on her 2001 album Vespertine.

Listen to Forgiveless below.

S.O.S. is SZA’s first new record since her 2017 debut Ctrl – which featured in our top 100 albums of the decade. This summer, SZA released a deluxe version of Ctrl to celebrate the album’s fifth anniversary. This year also has also seen SZA win her first Grammy with Doja Cat for the pair’s collaborative track Kiss Me More.

Björk has also revealed the new Sideproject remix of atopos today – the video for which saw Björk immersed in a trippy mushroom-filled rave. Icelandic group Sideproject worked on some of the production across Björk’s 2022 album Fossora. Speaking on the remix, Björk said: “I am so grateful to the incredible Icelandic electronic group Sideproject, they make me excited about Reykjavik music and not worry: the future is fertile!”

On working with Björk on this remix, Sideproject added: “It was an absolute pleasure to work on this remix. we had a great time putting our own spin on the soundscape of atopos and we are really happy with the outcome. thank you so much Björk. takk fyrir okkur”.
