HowTheLightGetsIn awoke the idyllic embankment of the River Wye with an invigorating week of reflection, debate, and dancing.

Renowned as “Europe’s answer to TED”, philosophy and music festival HowTheLightGetsIn, hosted by the Institute of Art and Ideas, took place this spring from 26 – 29 May. Thinkers including Myriam François, Yasmin Benoit and Jessica Defino were amongst the 350 performers who took over the festival’s 12 stages, complemented by live podcasts from platforms like Novara Media and PoliticsJOE.

The Orb and Crazy P Soundsystem set the tone for an eclectic and immersive musical experience, while experimental outfit Tara Clerkin Trio, jazz-funk quintet Ebi Soda, UK dub pioneer Mad Professor, and a DJ set from Hercules and Love Affair kept the crowds enthralled. Other notable acts included Afriquoi, Sea Power, Mandrake Handshake, and MOBO award-winning artist Ayanna Witter Johnson.

Take a peek at some of the highlights below, and look out for HowTheLightGetsIn’s upcoming event in London this summer. Taking place from 21-22 September, the weekend is set to draw in a characteristcally diverse range of creative and intellectual thinkers, performers and industry leaders. Get your tickets here.
