DJ Spider is one of New York’s most revered purveyors of deep, dark techno, so who better to talk us through the best Rekids releases ever?
With punishing beats, a harsh aesthetic and a name that conjures up some of the scariest things on earth, DJ Spider has been a mainstay in New York’s seedy underground techno scene since time immemorial. By consistently producing and DJing the toughest tunes around, he’s not only earned a top spot in the city – his dedication to the scene has sent him off around the world, gathering fans wherever he goes.
It was here in the UK that Spider’s latest EP found a home, specifically after it grabbed the attention of Radio Slave and his label, Rekids. As Rekids gears up to celebrate their tenth birthday we thought we’d ask Spider to tell us a little bit more about why he found the label such an appealing place to release his latest musical output.
The Machine - Talking Dolls (Joe Claussell Re-Interpretation)
This massive remix was part of The Machine LP, RedHead (REKIDS006LP) and has everything that I love about Joe’s production in it! The deep, dark atmosphere that he creates with a nice funky bass line and completed with some amazing pianos is just incredible. It is a perfect transition record for my DJ sets.
DJ Spider plays alongside Rodhad, Radio Slave, and Evan Baggs on Sun 29 May at Oval Space for their Ten Years of Rekids party.
DJ Spider – Ninja Drive-By is out on Rekids on 17 June
