Cue Points: HiTech
This is Cue Points, a series where DJs get granular with current tracks in their sets, giving us the low-down on what makes them work.
With their provocative blend of ghettotech, juke and Jersey Club HiTech have been turning heads for their frenetic live energy and future-facing take on Detroit’s underground sounds.
Consisting of rapper-producer-DJs 47Chops, King Milo and Milf Melly, their sets are Hennessy-fuelled, mosh pit-inducing, wonderfully hectic and most importantly of all – pure fun. It’s made HiTech the latest flag-bearers of the Motor City’s rich musical continuum and truly singular party starters.
To provide a window into the method behind the chaos, the trio pick out five of their favourite tracks to drop at the moment and explain their dancefloor-shaking potential.
Terrence Parker – Love’s Got Me High (Tribute Mix)
Such a groovy track, good for intros or building up to. My favourite thing about this track is the sample over it.
DJ Snowflake – Dum Da Da
Great track for high energy sets. The original joint, called Din Daa Daa by George Kranz is slower than this one, but it still has that same feel.
Hermeth – Devil’s Reject
Now, this joint right here is a banger [for] when you just want people to wild out or when they’re already hyped up. The build up in the middle of the track is the icing on the cake.
Amadeezy – Le Juke L’Amour (RAPRAVE Redux)
Amadeezy a wild boy for putting [Gigi D’Agostino’s] L’amour Toujours over some juke drums. It brings two worlds together that you didn’t know you needed to experience.
HiTech – SPANK!
The way the kicks come in banging with the keys, floating gracefully over the beat, turns this track into a tool to keep in your arsenal to keep any dance party hype!
HiTech play at Le Guess Who? festival, which takes place in Utrecht between 7-10 November.
