From a Banksy performance piece to a Sugababes roadblock, Charli xcx’s gilded roll call to Marina Abramovic’s cast of thousands, here’s the most memorable moments from Glastonbury 2024 – in pictures.
And just like that, the sun has set on another year at Glastonbury. You all know the cliche: it’s not about the headliners. Well, this year this felt especially true. PJ Harvey, Little Simz and Tems at the Pyramid Stage will live long in the memory, while nostalgia proved once again an irresistible attraction, with Sugababes, Avril Lavigne and The Streets all pulling in the crowds.
2024 also served as a reminder of Glastonbury’s place as one of the best nightlife destinations in the world. Block9’s queer haven NYC Downlow brought committed queues and ever-impeccable vibes, while the return of Genosys after a five-year hiatus took dancers back to the early 90s with a four-hour Sunday takeover from DiY Sound System. Meanwhile, a revamped Silver Hayes programme welcomed an extensive line-up including Joy Orbison, Shygirl’s Club Shy and Charli xcx‘s Partygirl – featuring Robyn, Romy, George Daniels and more. If you knew, you knew.
This being Glastonbury, politics was front and centre. Banksy launched an inflatable artwork depicting a migrant boat during Idles’ Other stage headline set and Marina Abramovic led a seven-minute silence in response to the official theme this year – Peace.
