Listen to a magical, insect-inspired playlist from 33EMYBW

Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Shanghai-hailing, SVBKVLT-affiliated experimental producer and bug enthusiast 33EMYBW has long been inspired by insects, and their uniquely leggy forms of movement. Her third album, Arthropods, takes the kinetic energies of spiders, beetles, cicada and other invertebrates as sonic inspiration, building dance music for groups of tiny creatures.

Her Selections playlist is an extension of those wanderings, while exploring magic, ancient Chinese rituals, and sounds related to insects. “The concept of this playlist is ‘insect & spell’, which uses sound, form, illusion and reality to array the formations,” she explains. Listen below.

33EMYBW will perform a live A/V set with visual artist Joey Holder at Lunchmeat Festival, which takes place in Prague between 23-29 September.
