Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Black Rave Culture was born out of a desire to spread the influence and celebrate the continuing legacy of Black dance music. The trio, made up of Amal, James Bangura and Nativesun, are mainstays in their home city of Washington D.C.’s underground, while drawing from scenes beyond where Black music has played an important part in shaping music culture – Detroit techno, New York City, New Jersey, Baltimore club and even jungle from London.

As champions of music and community, the group have curated a playlist that expresses their diverse taste, and built to bring people together. “The playlist currently reflects our personal tastes individually and collectively,” they say. “Be it through age, demographic or region, those tastes extend beyond the borders of the city of D.C. and ultimately connects people from all over.”

Black Rave Culture will perform at Dour Festival, which takes place in Dour, Belgium between July 17 and July 21
