Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Everything Cristian Dinamarca does is driven by the MO of “staying true to your core”. This ethos is evident not only literally in the name of his Staycore label, which the Stockholm-based DJ and producer runs with Ghazal, but also centred in his sound which elicits an atmospheric dancefloor euphoria.

Sonically, his output draws on late 90’s and early 00’s trance and pop alongside tapping into his Chilean roots via percussive-heavy Latin and Caribbean music styles. This fusion of influences is reflected both in his own productions, such as his 2017 EP Himnos which featured Latin club edits of classic trance tunes, and in his DJ sets. The latter of which take in reggaeton, warped club edits and harder dance cuts.

Since his earlier, more sample-heavy releases, Dinamarca has incorporated more hardware and analog instrumentation – including synths and guitars – in his productions, as showcased on 2019 album Fantasilandia. In addition to his solo creations, Dinamarca also has a prolific collaborative output and has worked with the likes of Eartheater, Coucou Chloe, Ms Nina and La Favi.

Dinamarca’s work also exudes an exuberance, which his Selections playlist – ahead of his appearance at Cala Mijas festival next weekend – captures. In his own words, “Here’s a selection of some of my favourite tracks this summer and also a little taste of what to expect from my set at Cala Mijas.” Featuring Bendike Giske, Rosalía, and Dinamarca’s own collaborations with rusowsky and Meth Math, get locked in below.

Dinamarca plays Cala Mijas, Costa del Sol, on 1-3 September
